IBM plans to acquire HashiCorp for $35 per share, which is 42.6% more than the closing price on Monday. After news of the deal talks leaked to the public on Tuesday, shares of HashiCorp saw a sharp increase.
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna noted the significance of this element in his company’s hybrid strategy and, just for fun, threw in a mention of artificial intelligence (AI).
In extended trading on Wednesday, HashiCorp’s shares increased by more than 4%, while IBM’s sank by 7% because hashicorp acquired by ibm after the latter company’s first-quarter revenue report came in slightly lower than expected.
Compared to LSEG expectations of $14.55 billion, the total revenue was $14.46 billion. Sales in the consulting segment were flat throughout the quarter.

The first quarter saw a 5.5% growth in IBM’s software business. As it becomes more and more important to store and handle the enormous volumes of data used in artificial intelligence systems, the company has increased its focus on the cloud.
The Big Blue’s sequential growth saw its “AI book of business” surpass $1 billion in the first quarter. Real sales and reservations from a range of offerings are included in the book.

Within the first full year following closure, which is anticipated by the end of 2024, IBM stated that the acquisition of HashiCorp would be financed by cash on hand and would increase adjusted core profit.
HashiCorp, a California-based company, lets users set up and maintain own cloud-based infrastructures.
“For IBM, this is a wise transaction. Vice president of market research firm International Data Corp. Stephen Elliot stated, “They’re buying a leader and it complements their existing portfolio.”
For the quarter ended in March, IBM reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.68, which was higher than the average estimate of $1.60 made by analysts.
