Bhole Baba’s satsang program was going on in Phulrai village, as soon as the satsang ended, people started running, which caused a stampede and this accident happened. The screams and search for relatives in Hathras on Tuesday afternoon did not end till late night. Administrative staff was deployed on the spot and many senior officers were present in the district.

More than 50 thousand people had reached Bhole Baba’s program. To participate in this program, people from Mathura, Agra, Firozabad and Etah along with many other districts had arrived.

Kamala said, “I have been coming to Baba’s satsang for 20 years. I had gone to attend the satsang with my 16-year-old daughter and there was a stampede at around 2 pm. My daughter and I were slightly injured. She was fine but she fainted as soon as she reached the hospital, later the doctors declared her dead.”

The same is the condition of Vinod, whose entire family has been destroyed in this accident. Vinod’s wife, mother and 16-year-old daughter died in the stampede. Crying, Vinod told ANI, “I did not know that the three of them had gone to the satsang because I had gone out. Someone told me that there was a stampede in the satsang, after which I reached the spot. On reaching here, I came to know that my daughter, mother and wife had died. I did not even find my mother’s body. My everything has been destroyed.”

A 3.5-year-old child also died in the stampede in Hathras. The child’s uncle Kunwar Pal said, “The child had come here with his mother. His mother is still missing. We are from Aligarh.” Hira Lal, a relative of a victim injured in the accident, had come here from Aligarh. Hira Lal said, “My whole family had come here by bus to participate in the satsang. All my family members are fine except my sister-in-law who was injured in the stampede.”

Mehtab’s wife Gudiya Devi had come to attend Baba’s satsang. She did not know that this would probably be the last day of her life. Mehtab expressed his grief while crying. He said, “I stopped her from going to Baba’s satsang many times, but she did not listen. She had come for satsang with our daughter and two neighbouring women. In this incident, both the neighbouring women and my wife have died. At present, my daughter is safe.”

Actually, a satsang was organized by preacher Baba Narayan Hari in Pulrai village of Hathras district. After participating in it, people were returning to their homes, when a stampede broke out. Baba Narayan Hari is also known by his followers as Saakar Vishva Hari Bholebaba. Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said that 116 people have died in the accident, out of which all the deceased are women except seven children and one man.

Regarding the Hathras incident, DGP Prashant Kumar said, ‘FIR will be registered against the organizers. Action will be taken against all those who are responsible in the investigation. The Chief Secretary said that permission was given for 80,000 people to gather, but more people had gathered than that. There was sufficient police force as per the number of people allowed. If it comes to light in the investigation, action will be taken against Bhole Baba as well.’
